After work I walked through a park and found these on the ground underneath a tree. There were still more on the tree. Please take note of the strange sausage like fruits behind it. I also found them in the same park.

So, for my first entry, let me reminisce about the first weird fruit that really had an effect on me. I was 17. I was en route from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay, a 10 hour drive. There were many rivers to cross on the way, which meant getting out of the van, waiting for a barge to pull up, and then loading yourself on with the livestock. While waiting with my mother, a few ox and some chickens, there were  local farmers trying to sell a few things. My mother bought this thing that looked appely on the outside. When she cut it open, what a surprise. It looked like this:

For years she talked about this fruit. I tried to find it again and again, but haven’t seen one since.

So, what is this fruit? Dragonfruit.
